UWR Photo Contest Rules 2020 (CANCELLED)

Updated on September 20, 2021: Due to low participation during COVID-19 pandemic we had no choice, but cancel the contest.

The purpose of the Underwater Rugby Photo Contest is to promote the underwater rugby by boosting picture creation. The pictures will be used on social media and to produce high-quality products after the contest. It's a not for profit initiative, created and managed by players who are passionate about underwater rugby. It also aims to bring together the community of players, their families, sponsors, event organizers and gear manufacturer in a fun and mutually beneficial manner.

Entry period

The contest begins right after the announcement and it ends on September 15th, 2021.

What to enter

We expect images that were taken after January 27, 2019. Images can be taken during practice, competition or in any artificial setup which reflects the reality of the sport.

Image quality requirements

  • Resolution: minimum of 6 Mpixels

  • Orientation: Landscape (preferred)


  • We automatically ignore pictures that don’t meet the quality requirements

  • We don't accept collages or drastically post edited pictures.

  • We keep the right to reject any picture if we feel it's not appropriate in this context.

How to enter

Send your pictures to uwsphotos@gmail.com in JPG format. Pictures should not contain any watermark, and it must be sent by the photographer. Captioning is welcomed but not required.

Information required:

  • Name of photographer

  • City

  • Country

  • Club (if applicable)

  • Tournament (if applicable)

  • Date taken

Copyrights & Usage Rights

By submitting your images to the competition, each entrant confirms and warrants that:

  1. they are the sole author of each entry and that it is their original work;

  2. they own the copyright and any other intellectual property rights of each image;

  3. they have the prior permission of those pictured in the image (or, where the image shows any persons under 19, the consent of their parent/guardian) for the usage rights and will indemnify Underwater Sport Pictures against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement;

  4. they have not licensed or disposed of any rights in the image that would conflict with uses to be made by the competition

  5. they have received any necessary permissions from the owner(s) of buildings, trademarks and copyrighted materials included in submitted images for the usage rights required by the competition and will indemnify Underwater Sport Pictures against any claims made by any third parties in respect of such infringement.


By entering the competition, you grant Underwater Sport Pictures a non-exclusive, irrevocable license to reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media throughout the world, any image for any purpose connected with the competition. This shall include, but is not limited to:

  • To use for marketing and promotional purposes in any media such as exhibitions, print, digital and social media directly related to the Underwater Sport Pictures competition.

  • Create high-quality gift and decor products like calendar, magnets, wall arts.

Copyright of each image is retained by its respective photographer.

Entrants, whose work is commended or above, agree to take part in post-competition publicity and agree to the use of their name and likeness for this purpose without compensation.

Underwater Sport Pictures will endeavor to credit all photographs with the desired caption (e.g. name of author or club, website).


The contests will be judged on originality, quality, overall impact, artistic merit and the value to the sport. The final ranking will be established by the organizers.

Social media likes, shares might be used for preliminary ranking, but won't be used exclusively.


  • 1st prize: DJI Mavic Mini Drone ($419)

  • 2nd prize: GoPro Hero7 Silver ($200)

  • 3rd prize: Najade fins ($95)

Total price: $800

We reserve the right to change the prizes to similar products or their cash value due to scarcity or material price increase of the original prize.
